About Evelynne

Singer-songwriter Evelynne Ross wants her listeners to feel all the feels! Raised on her father’s extensive record collection, she spent countless hours during her childhood in Toronto learning the words to every song so she could sing them back to her family in regular performances. Performing in bands, trios and duos throughout her teens, by her early twenties, she sold her car and few worldly possessions and moved to Barbados with a loose plan to record jingles for Bajan radio. There, she spent time in Eddy Grant’s studio with The Rolling Stones while they wrote and recorded their hit album Steel Wheels. Upon her return to Toronto, she started a family and shortly thereafter her band, Evolution, building a following in venues throughout Ontario.

Evelynne has always been attracted to soulful voices, distinct melodic hooks, sublime guitar riffs, singable melodies and dynamic harmonies. As a younger songwriter, she was heavily influenced by a wide variety of bands and individual artists including Fleetwood Mac, The Bee Gees, Elton John, The Eagles, James Taylor, Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt, The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, CSNY & of course Joni Mitchell. Growing up in the late 80’s and 90’s Crowded House, Squeeze, Annie Lennox/Eurythmics, Prince, Tom Petty and The Tragically Hip were also strong influences. As she grew older her tastes expanded to include an even wider spectrum of music from every decade, and many genres including folk, rock, pop, country, blues and roots music with a particular interest in Canadian music. Warm melodies and the storytelling nature of songs hold equal motivation for her in her own songwriting and are the elements that continue to draw her in and inspire the songs she writes.

These days, songs come to her most often in the form of distinct melodies with a few lyrics or phrases that fill out over time. Some come quickly, other take a little longer to take shape. They are songs that speak to the human condition – songs that listeners will feel instantly drawn to. Her new EP Against the Fence soars with powerful melodies and heartfelt songwriting. Telling compelling stories of everyday life, Evelynne’s songs resonate with those who enjoy a memorable and singable melody and a universal and relatable story.
